Does anyone remember those billboards?
The City of Sin line, with all its negative connotations, was being altered.
Instead of City of Sin, the promotional billboards went for positive implications...City of ...FIRSTS...such as GE's Jet Engine, etc.
This was in 1992/93...right at the beginning of The Downtown Lynn Art and Internet Revival.
A serious effort seemed underway to change the City of Lynn's image.
My contribution came via a serenidiptous connection, and a bucket of old paint with the brush still in it.
If you entered Lynn via The Lynnway to Broad Street in those days you may have seen the crudely painted sign along the top windows of the ill fated Tapley Building.
The sign beckoned all...saying...
"Lynn, Lynn, City of ...
ya can't do nuthin' if ya neva begin."
It glistened in the sunshine, broadcasting its simple message to anyone who was looking up.
That's the outlook we need to explore...LOOKING UP!
Did you ever see the sign atop The Tapley Building?
Or were you locked into tunnel vision...straight ahead...no distractions...places to go and people to see?
Nothing good can happen if nobody notices the beginnings...the foundation, if you will.
In this case, the foundation was five stories up in an old, negected factory building.
That's a lofty beginning, don'tcha think?
There's only one place to take it after starting out like that...EXCELSIOR!
